Botox

Botox® is a well-proven, popular and safe anti-ageing treatment for lines and wrinkles. The Bosham Clinic offers Botox treatment in our Chichester clinic.  The treatment visibly eradicates and softens lines. It also slows down the formation of lines by inhibiting excessive muscle function without diminishing facial expression.

Botox® received FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2002. There are several toxins available on the market, Botox/Vistabel®, Dysport/Azzalure® and Xeomin/Bocouture® are all toxins from Botulinum Toxin Type A®. Neurobloc® and Myobloc® are from Botulinum Toxin Type B®.

At The Bosham Clinic we mainly use Botox/Vistabel® and also use Dysport/Azzalure®. These brands have the most clinical data behind them and have been around the longest. Botox® is a prescription only medicine and for this reason, best injected by a medical Doctor. At The Bosham Clinic, we use Botox® for lines and wrinkles, bruxism (teeth grinding), migraine relief and excessive sweating.

MIGRANCE RELIEF AND BOTOX®

Suffering from migraines can be debilitating and decrease your quality of life. Botox® has recently been granted FDA approval for the treatment of migraines after a large study showed that it does indeed work. We are not always sure how pain relief is achieved, but from all the information gathered by doing clinical studies, the presumed mechanism for making you headache free or giving you reduction in frequency, is the blocking of certain signals that can cause migraines. At The Bosham Clinic we will take a full medical and headache history and assess if Botox® will be indicated for you.

EXCESSIVE SWEATING

Hyperhydrosis is frequent or constant excessive sweating. Sweating is your body's mechanism to cool itself. In most circumstances, it's both natural and healthy. Some people sweat in amounts greater than needed to cool the body, a condition called hyperhydrosis. Hyperhydrosis usually affects the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and underarms. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, hyperhydrosis can cause social anxiety or embarrassment. Fortunately, several options are available to treat hyperhydrosis. In severe cases, surgical procedures can be very effective at stopping sweating. At The Bosham Clinic, we use Botox® to treat excessive sweating. Botox® weakens the action of the sweat glands rather than muscles. It safe and can last up to 6 months.

WHAT IS BOTOX/DYSPORT®

Botox® is a purified protein form, from the toxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria. Used in miniscule quantities, it is safe to use for localised cosmetic treatment and does not spread throughout the body. It blocks the nerve impulse from reaching the specific area and as a result, the muscle temporarily weakens, with softening or eradication of wrinkles.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT?

After having a full consultation and agreeing on the desired cosmetic effect, a photo will be taken for our records and for reference later on. Using a very fine needle, the area on the face is then injected. An initial minor sting might be felt, but most people find this treatment quite relaxing.

HOW DO I AVOID THE FROZEN LOOK?

That starts with finding the right practitioner because how we look after Botox® depends on how much Botox® has been used. At The Bosham Clinic, we only uphaul the natural look, because that is beautification. Having no lines, can be just as ageing as having too many. We will work with you to achieve your individual cosmetic goals.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AFTER TREATMENT?

The possible side effects are always related to the area that is injected. If your frown is injected, you need to stay upright for about six hours post treatment. Avoid rubbing or massaging any area that is treated for at least ten days.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?

When Botox® is injected by an experienced Doctor, side effects are rare. A heavy eyelid or diplopia may result after injecting the frown. This normally would not be very visible to others and can be corrected with using eyedrops. It lasts for about two weeks. A heavy brow is more problematic and may result after too much Botox® has been used on the forehead. At The Bosham Clinic, we pride ourselves on our technique, and that means keeping side effects rare.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE A RESULT AND HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

Botox® starts to show within a few days and has a maximum result by ten days after treatment. The effect of Botox® gradually wears off and most people will need to have repeated treatment within four months. Because it is so preventative, some of us can stretch that time to about six months. To keep a continued natural look, it is always advisable to treat about every 4 months. Some of us might need Botox® a little more often, because our muscles are so strong. Everybody is a little different with their Botox® requirements and our team at The Bosham Clinic care about the individual approach.

WHAT IS BRUXISM?

Bruxism can be broadly characterised as grinding of the teeth and jaw clenching. This can be when you are awake or sleeping. It is a habit that affects around 8-10% of the population. Bruxism can result in tooth wear, pain and limited movement of the jaw and headache. It can also give a more masculine appearance to the jaw, which is not always favourable in women. Botox® can help this condition and usually lasts more than six months.

WHAT IS THE COST?

At The Bosham Clinic we do not work per area because we believe the face is a unity and should be viewed as such. We charge per unit of Botox® used. This keeps the treatment very individual. Treatment cost starts from £180 per session.
